Honghe University (HU) can be dated back to 1978, with the former name of Mengzi Normal College. In April 2003, approved by the Ministry of Education, Mengzi Normal College and Yunnan Radio＆Television University Honghe Campus were combined to form Honghe University. Located in Mengzi, capital city of Honghe Prefecture, Honghe University, the only university in Honghe, is a public comprehensive university at undergraduate level co-sponsored by Yunnan provincial government and Honghe prefecture government.
“Innovation, Excellence, Harmony” are the basic concept of the university management. HU never restricts itself within the local area but pursues a broader vision with an honest attitude and practical spirit. Based on Honghe Prefecture, HU strides to make better contribution to Yunnan Province and even spread its effect to South and Southeast Asia. Aiming at cultivating application-oriented talents for the development of regional economy and society, HU sticks to “local, national and international” developing strategy. At present, the university covers an area of about 1200 mu (80 hectares), and the building area takes up 337,400 square meters, of which the teaching and administrative buildings amount to 145,700 million square meters. The fixed assets reach 539million yuan, and instruments and equipments for teaching and scientific research value 76.3277 million yuan. HU is home for 910 staff, of which 709 are full-time teachers. , and some Southeast Asian countries. The number of full-time students amounts to 13,095 and the library hold a collection of 793,600 volumes.
