Internationalization

Fully adopting its own geographic advantage, HU attaches great importance to promoting its distinctive development strategy of “education internationalization”, and actively carries out international cooperation and exchange programs. HU has co-established a Confucius Institute with University of Colombo, Sri Lanka . Up to now, HU has established cooperative relationship with more than 80 overseas colleges and universities, primary and secondary schools, as well as educational institutions of 12 countries. HU has set up Chinese Centers with cooperative colleges and universities of Vietnam , Thailand and Cambodia , as well as educational institution in Thai Nguyen University, Vietnam . This institution aims to carry out overseas education programs of co-cultivating undergraduates. 1,096 students from over 20 majors have attended 1+3 Southeast Asian Language Programs, Study Abroad Program (SAP), Sino-American 1 + 2 + 1 Dual-Degree, and Internship Abroad Program (IAP) since 2007. HU takes advantage of “Yunnan Provincial Talents Training Base of Southeast Asian Languages and South Asian Languages” and “Yunnan Provincial Education Base of Chinese Language and Culture”, and creates conditions for cultivating compound and applied talents with international outlook. In recent years, the Ministry of Education has approved HU to offer bachelor degree programs including Vietnamese, Thai, Burmese, Cambodian, and Laotian. HU basically forms a complete languages’ group of Greater Mekong Subregion countries, laying the professional basis of cultivating international applied talents.
